Our Beginning
Our journey with Golden Retrievers began shortly after Heather completed her M.S. in Computer Science and started her career with the U.S. Department of Defense. When Noah brought home our first Golden, Miles, everything changed. What started as one puppy quickly became a life-defining passion. Miles' intelligence, patience, and joyful spirit showed us just how special this breed is...loyal, eager to please, and always ready for adventure.
As Heather learned more, she realized that Miles didn't look quite like the Goldens she saw on television at shows like Westminster. That observation, paired with her naturally curious, eager-to-learn mindset sparked a deep desire to understand the breed on a new level. She began studying everything she could about Golden Retrievers: structure, temperament, working ability, health, and what defines a truly well-bred dog. Training Miles together, attending classes, and connecting with mentors set the foundation for what would become a lifelong devotion to learning, breeding, and preserving this remarkable breed.

Finding Our Foundation
As Heather's understanding of the breed deepened, we began to see Golden Retrievers in a new light, not just as wonderful companions, but as the product of generations of thoughtful breeding and dedication. When we found Winnie, we were immediately drawn to her pedigree. We loved how it reflected balance and purpose, filled with remarkable dogs who had earned titles on both ends, showcasing not only beauty and structure but also intelligence and working ability. We admired the style represented in her lineage and knew she was the right foundation for our next chapter.
Winnie has a sweet spirit, a sharp mind, and an incredible willingness to learn. Training her was a joy. We explored Rally, Obedience, Scent Work, Dock Diving, and even began dabbling in Conformation and field work. Every new experience with her taught us more about the breed's versatility and heart.
Winnie became the cornerstone of our breeding program, not only for her pedigree, but for her temperament, soundness, and the joy she brings to our lives every day. She has produced two beautiful daughters, Ivy and Willow, who continue her legacy in both form and spirit. Ivy, in particular, has grown into an exceptional foundation bitch who is beautifully structured, moderate, athletic, intelligent, sweet, and wonderfully handler-focused. She's a delight to live with and show, already pointed toward her AKC Championship with two Best of Breed wins from the Bred-By Exhibitor class. Ivy has also produced two promising young hopefuls, carrying forward the qualities we value most in the breed.

Growing Through Mentorship
As our knowledge and experience grew, we were given an incredible opportunity to learn from seasoned mentors within the breed. One of those mentors took a chance on Heather and entrusted us with Journey, a beautifully bred Golden Retriever who helped us take the next step into the show world.
Journey taught us so much about show grooming, handling, presentation, and the level of dedication required to succeed in Conformation. Her success in the ring, including earning Best in Sweepstakes, multiple class wins, and ultimately finishing her AKC Championship with four majors under the care and expertise of Rebecca Heimann, marked an incredible milestone in our journey in Golden Retrievers.
More than her accomplishments, Journey shaped us as breeders and exhibitors. She strengthened our eye for detail, deepened our respect for the process, and reinforced the patience and discipline required to pursue excellence in the breed. She will always hold a special place in our hearts as a foundational part of our early growth in Golden Retrievers.

Today
Today, our commitment to the breed extends beyond our own dogs. We actively volunteer and serve within our local Golden Retriever club, working to educate the community and support responsible breeding, training, and ownership. Drawing from Heather's background in Computer Science, we also contribute to advancing the breed's future through managing, building, and studying the Golden Retriever pedigree database, K9-Data. Combining our technical and breeding expertise allows us to give back in meaningful ways in promoting health, transparency, and preservation for generations to come.
From our quiet grove in Northwest Arkansas, surrounded by our Goldens, we remain dedicated to raising exceptional dogs with purpose, passion, and love. At Sleepy Grove Goldens, every generation teaches us something new and we honor those lessons in every litter we raise.
